A Brief Overview of NSS

The National Service Scheme at D. S. College, Katihar is a vibrant initiative aimed at fostering community involvement and social responsibility among students. As part of a nationwide scheme, the college's NSS unit engages students in various activities that contribute to both personal growth and the welfare of the society around them. College has three units of NSS viz Unit I, Unit II and Unit III having capacity of 100 each.

NSS volunteers from the college participate in a wide range of programs, including:

  • Health Camps: Organizing blood donation drives, health check-ups, and awareness campaigns on health and hygiene.
  • Community Development: Working in rural and urban areas of Murshidabad to improve sanitation, promote literacy, and raise awareness on issues like gender equality and environmental conservation.
  • Environmental Awareness: Involvement in tree plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, and other activities aimed at protecting the environment.
  • pecial Camping Programs: Volunteers participate in week-long camps in rural areas, adopted villages to engage in development work, addressing issues like sanitation, health, and infrastructure.

The NSS unit at D. S. College, Katihar is a vital platform for students to develop leadership skills, engage with social issues, and make meaningful contributions to the community. Through these activities, they embody the NSS motto, "Not Me, But You," reflecting the spirit of selfless service and national development.

The aim of the National Service Scheme is to foster the spirit of social responsibility and selfless service among students. It encourages our students to actively participate in community development and nation-building efforts. Through various activities, NSS promotes leadership, teamwork, and empathy, while addressing social issues like education, health, and environmental conservation. The scheme aims to develop students' personalities by engaging them in meaningful service, helping them become responsible citizens and agents of positive change in society. Its ultimate goal is to create a strong, socially conscious, and united nation.
